| anyone who is a hockey fan and/or an NPR fan needs to listen to this program- "Hockey Diaries". it's an hour-long NPR-style program that basically followed Brooks Laich and Karl Alzner through the season last year- on the one hand, what it's like to be starting out as a first-year professional athlete; on the other, what it's like to be there and be getting better. just fantastic. i think even those who don't like the Caps will enjoy it ;) (i am also going to burn this on to a CD for my mom.) | ||

"I asked Pavel Datsyuk what Alex Ovechkin brought to the table, he answered “My breakfast.” I asked Ovechkin the same question about Datsyuk, he said: “The Lady Byng.”" -Craig Custance ha!! i just worked on a private client for 90 minutes- it's funny how a 50 minute massage at work can feel like eternity, but when i have more freedom and more to work with, 90 minutes was SO not enough time! on my way home i bought candy corn and pumpkin ale. my plan for the rest of the weekend is to consume these things while watching hockey, and icing my foot/taking NSAIDs. maybe it'll feel better by tuesday. i am already feeling slightly stir crazy, and i just got home ten minutes ago. though i imagine it's been building for a long time. ugh. |

what do you do with your CDs? i buy CDs rarely now- whenever i can't find the music online/for download. i have hundreds though, which i mostly transferred to cd books when i moved (i stopped at the letter T, ha). but i can't bring myself to throw anything out- the old cases, the booklets (the occasional nice one, even though i will probably never look at it again- lyrics are online now! man, have times changed). and what to do with cds i don't want anymore? stores won't buy them, i probably can't sell them online- do i just ...THROW THEM OUT? i can't! and then some cds don't have the artist/album written on them, how am i supposed to know what they are! not that it will really matter much since i will probably never take them out of the case. maybe i will just write on them. help me!! |

i kind of love current tv. i started watching it because of the rotten tomatoes show, but they have a lot of really interesting programming. right now i'm watching a "tribute" to Euna Lee and Laura Ling- right now it's showing a report Ling did about an amazonian tribe, really cool stuff. i also am amused that they blurred out the junk on a totally naked guy, whereas everyone else has on only a strip of cloth around their waists. so their junk is still completely out there, but i guess since they're wearing clothes they don't need to be blurred? ha! actually now they're showing one of them getting cupping done, like it's this crazy thing you can only get done in an alley in asia :D sillies! karaoke was kind of insane last night! considering that there were only eight of us at the most and we were there for three hours- we just started punching in songs the moment we got in, no time sitting around flipping through the books (i spent a couple hours making a list before i went in :D) so even though i put in maybe 15 songs, we only got around to half of them before we had to leave! and they actually made us leave at 12:30! usually we get to leave whenever, but i guess it was busy last night and people needed the room? i dunno. so yeah, i'm a little bit hungover and i'm supposed to go to matt's birthday in the park today but it's so hot outside :( and i'm supposed to bring food? i can hardly feed myself, i never know what to bring to potlucks :( and the bakery where i usually just pick up italian cookies to bring places is closed i think :( i bought a playstation 2 from someone on craigslist and when i brought it home yesterday i discovered she forgot to give me the cable that connects it to the tv! duh, i should have realized that when she first gave it to me. she was cool though, told me to contact her if anything was missing or not working or whatever, so she said she will look for it. also i think all the people who asked me on tuesday how my feet were feeling made them start hurting again :( i think i will go get another injection on wednesday. because next saturday is my first day at the open! and i need pain-free feet! ooh they totally just showed a quick clip of manhattan mayhem vs. queens of pain in a promo clip :D |

against my better judgment i looked at the continuing education catalog from my massage school- actually, overall it was a good thing. there are three classes i want to sign up for and two of them are totally affordable- reasonably priced, even! the first is a neck course- i took the spinal curvatures class with this guy (a chiropractor, not a MT!) and was totally impressed with his knowledge. and since the neck is my favorite part of the body to work, i would like to get even better at it :D the only problem with this class is that it's on a wednesday afternoon?? but i could take off a day of work for it i guess. the second appears to be an intro to rolfing class, which is something i've been interested in doing/learning about lately. this class is pretty darn cheap and i guess will be enough to let me know if i want to go any further with it. the third class is the painful one- i've seen it offered before and wanted to take it, but ugh, so expensive! $600 for four days? though i guess it is an all day class, so when you do the math it ends up being the cheapest of the three classes per hour...anyway, it's a neuromuscular therapy class, which is sort of like trigger points but more- more focus on the interaction between the muscles and the nervous system, which is something i should and would like to know more about. not to mention that it's used a lot in sports massage settings. :o hmm, i think i've convinced myself... they're also offering (for the first time, to my knowledge) a lymphatic drainage course, but i was never really into doing it when i was working for stuart- sure, i enjoyed working on the occasional person who needed it for post-cancer surgery reasons, but dear lord, if i have to touch one more lipo tummy i will scream! and speaking of screaming, off to go work on my trigger point client ;) |

![]() methinks i have a heel spur :( in comparison, the left foot looks much better. i wonder if i crunched that spur off when i was rolling my foot on the golf ball a couple months back? that foot used to hurt more, now it's the right foot... i have another appointment with the podiatrist on wednesday where i will tell him that it is time to move on from "conservative treatment", since that is what i've been doing for months and it's not working. MAKE IT STOP!!! i even have a target date now: the pain must be gone by august 22nd, as that is my first day on the job at the US Open ;D i am working six shifts. the first one is only three hours, two are for five hours, and the other three are from 5pm til "close". so those are gonna be long evenings. who knows when close is! close is whenever the tennis is over for the night! weekend was good. hung out with james all friday afternoon/evening. saw HP again with ted and his boyfriend on saturday (then had to return home- really bad day for the foot). had brunch with steph and val and james and andrew and matt in park slope yesterday, followed by lounging and games in prospect park. yesterday was really just a perfect day for the park, it was beautiful out. i was supposed to have my final dental appointment today but it was rescheduled for next week. i was responsible and went and got the x-ray, and now i am not getting off my couch again for the rest of the day except to pee and do laundry. |

I was going to write this long post today about all the ways massage therapists are treated poorly by their employers, but I'm not in the mood. Instead, I just want to post a link to this job ad I found that I am fuming over. Legal? Really? When you are looking for people who only preferably have any kind of skill? When the #2 thing you are looking for after a resume is a headshot? Applicants under 35 only? I sent them an e-mail asking a few questions as though I was interested in applying, only because I am SO curious to see what the hell this garbage is. Seriously disgusting. I want to knit but my hands will hurt, and my eyes are burning, and I have to be at the podiatrist at 8:45 tomorrow morning so maybe I will just go to bed now. And yeah, I know it's just Craigslist and that that place is bubbling over with sketchiness, but I still don't like it one bit. Also I still love beer. |

alright, i have been in denial about this long enough. third time is NOT a charm for this sweater. i swear i swatched and washed and blocked and everything and i THOUGHT i made gauge but clearly have not. i did the back and 1.5 side panels and there is no way this is not going to be HUGE on me. and i knew that after i was done with the back, but i was in denial about having put so much effort into this so far for nothing. and the thought of starting this sweater over AGAIN makes me want to scream. i guess it was not meant to be? UGH! UGH UGH UGH!!!! i think i just need to put this away for a while and start something else. maybe next winter i will pick it back up again, but for now it just needs to be far, far away from me. ![]() back to re-watching season one of "true blood", yay! |

i went swimming today! it occurred to me yesterday that since i'm getting tattooed again on monday, i only have a few more days for a while that i can swim. and i've been feeling like a lump lately- time to get moving again. three of the four corners at steinway and 34th ave have gyro carts. which one am i supposed to pick?? i decided to pick none, and as i walked home i remembered the new greek place that opened up on my corner and decided to get a gyro in there. my dad and i drove by the restaurant the other day and he said, "we'll see how long that lasts", and i have to agree with him. there were five or six people working there, and the place was empty. they better get their delivery service going, because their location is not fantastic, and it makes me sad when small businesses fail! and in my effort to support local business, i can now eat gyros guilt-free! :D also ted leonsis is doing a chat on the washington post site right now and i love this submitted question: Hi Ted, I have a number of friends in Pittsburgh who were very frustrated by the ticket-buying process for the playoff games this year. Their zip code and area code prevented them from getting deep into the ticket buying, and they were very angry that such a measure had been taken by the Capitals. Please, let me say to you sir, well done! Ted Leonsis: Who cares?:-). I dont care-- just want to be good and right by our fans-- thought people made a mountain out of a molehill; thanks for agreeing with our policy-- only people that complained were not our fans:-). i mostly agree with that, but was wondering a couple weeks ago what would happen if i tried to get tickets. everything about me is now situated in zip code 11103. i guess i'd have to get my mom's credit card info to buy them? |

tonight i went with andrew, steph, val, and traczie to all you can eat mussels and half price drinks at essex. it was awesome. actually, it was even more awesome than usual, because now we have the option of two kinds of mussels and regular vs. sweet potato fries! ( here are some pictures of tim wearing the sweater i made him! ) i saw a little kid waddling down the street holding his daddy's hand the other day and it occurred to me how big tim is getting! he's past the cute age now (though if you ask he still says he's two and a half)! :D also once traczie gets her ipod fixed we are going to have a contest to see who can listen to the most smashing pumpkins in one week. when steph and val went to the bathroom we talked about pumpkins b-sides and rarities just because we could, and also to see if we could make andrew explode! (he did not, and we are nerds) |

lucia's party last night was fun! it was a smallish gathering, the ladies all dressed up and there were lots of balloons! we "voted" (ie lucia stuffed the ballot box!!!) for prom king and queen, and gardiner and lucia won (though james and i voted gardiner for prom queen, not king), so they had to do the first dance, which was to that "this is the time of your life" green day song, and i blew bubbles over them while they danced! it was awesome!! and lucia and i are going to see 9 to 5: the musical next sunday! hooray! this morning i didn't wake up til 11- i mean, i'll sleep that late, but i wake up a few times before that in the morning and just got back to sleep. today i just SLEPT. so i was late getting to the BUST craft fair, but eventually i got there and met up with traczie and matt after i was done with my shopping. my haul: -strawberry margarita vegan lip balm from here -three soaps- buttermilk baby, papaya mango, japanese yuzu. because i need more handmade soap :D i managed to stay away from other soaps after seeing these though, they were the best at the fair. -a TON of vegan mineral makeup. the women running the booth were very pushy, which turned me off, but their prices were FAB ($2 for eyeshadow????? YAY!). when i went up to the booth, this woman immediately started telling me about their foundation, which is something i have thought about trying. she tells me, i think you're this shade, it'll help even out your skin tone and cover up some of that pink in your cheeks, is that rosacea? and i was like WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY ABOUT MY ROSY UKRAINIAN CHEEKS??? I LOVE MY CHEEKS! grr! but yeah, so i got some foundation, a few brushes (kabuki, eyeshadow, angled liner), a lip tint, and six eyeshadows (forest nymph, deep steel blue, antique gold, antique copper, smokey purple, and forest floor) -since matt and traczie got there early, they got bags with lots of free stuff in it, and they each gave me their skeins of o-wool yarn! it's a teal wool/cotton blend, but there's no info on the label in terms of yardage, etc. there is, however, a big disclaimer: "this skein did not meet our dying specifications. this yarn is not what we sell, but gives you a nice taste of our yarn, we hope you hunger for more." huh? why would they give out yarn that they don't want to represent themselves with??? :D then we went to some other part of brooklyn and walked up 5th avenue for a big street fair. we started, of course, with funnel cake and fried oreos (!)(they were 6 for $5, so matt got a bag- they literally throw 6 in a bag and then dump a TON of powdered sugar on top of it. it was gross/awesome) and got powdered sugar all over ourselves due to the wind. we saw kittens and shamwows (totally should have got one) and i got this great super discounted upholstery purse from brooklyn industries...i felt like a total asshole getting something from them at a street fair, but i was in the mood for a new purse. by the end my feet were kiiiiiiilling me, so i just went home and chilled for the rest of the evening. called rob about doing an exchange but he was busy, which was probably fine because my feet and legs hurt so bad that i don't know how i would have gone over to his place anyway. tomorrow, i don't plan on leaving my couch. it will be awesome. |

it appears that cabbie and bobby ryan have discovered the keys to winning:![]() i would like for the caps to particularly pay attention to #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8**, and 10. they are not ducks, so they don't need to be mighty. and great isn't good enough. please win tonight. **everyone stfu about ovie being dirty, he's not. he just isn't. he is, however, too reckless, and that is something i would LOVE for him to tone down. on that note, here is a question for those who know hockey better than i do: why would anyone ever purposely hit someone else knee-on-knee? doesn't that put their knee in just as much danger as the other person's? |
